European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 came into force in 2009 and relates to the classificaion, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures. Post Brexit, the United Kingdom retained Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, becoming UK law in the form of the GB CLP.
CLP is based on the United Nations globally harmonized system (UN GHS) and aims to protect consumer health. Non-compliance with CLP is an offence in both the UK and EU, potentially resulting in prosecution and recall of products.
